“DPMC offers support to my family with both in home and out of home respite which allows us all to have a well-earned break from each other. We feel confident to have a weekend away knowing that the care is provided by people who are familiar to the family.”
Dame Pattie Menzies Centre can provide caring respite support. Respite enables both the person with a disability and their carer to have a break and re-charge. When a carer needs to take a break we can support the person the carer normally cares for. DPMC will work with you to make it a positive experience for both the person with a disability and the carer.
Respite support is flexible and can be:
- Planned throughout the year so that there are regular or occasional breaks, for example, support can be for a couple of hours, a day, a weekend or more.
- Unplanned when a break is needed at short notice and/or an emergency when there is an immediate need such as a carer going to hospital.
Respite can be provided
- in the person’s home, including overnight, to allow the carer to go away from home
- or outside the home, to allow the carer to have a break at home.
